Preparing for a pool installation is almost as important as the installation itself. There is so much to do and figure out before the fiberglass pool installation occurs. Before you do anything with your land, you’ll have to check what permissions you have or don’t have, how far you must be from other homes and property lines of neighbours and indeed your own homes. Depending on what type of pool you’re installing – above-ground or inground – this can be made more complicated if it’s the latter. Either way, you want to ensure you have complied with all of the necessary laws and regulations.
It is ideal if your pool is going to be installed on a flat surface. This will greatly reduce your costs and simplify the installation process. However, if you have a sloping backyard, you can opt to have a retainer wall to help level the ground for the installation.
Before any work can be done on the property, the area must be cleared around where you’re going to be installing the pool. This means trees, bushes, flowerbeds, everything must go and the area where the heavy equipment will be tearing up the earth must be empty of anything that may impede the progress of the equipment. It is preferable that any trees, bushes, flowers, etc are removed at the root, so that they may be replanted. Ask for professional help on that.
In a similar vein to the previous point, it’s very important that you check underneath the soil where you’ll be placing your pool before anyone starts digging anything up. Make sure that you’re not hitting any gas, water or electric lines. Your city or town’s planning commission could well be of use to help you determine where those lines are. The last thing you want is to dig down and hit something, causing potentially tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of damage. Any underground utilities will need to be rerouted before work can begin.
One of the most important things to consider in something like a fiberglass plunge pool, or really any fiberglass swimming pool installation is: where is it going? If your pool is being placed outside, then you’re going to want to make sure that it is installed in the flattest part of your backyard, in compliance with zoning rules, etc. Consider too: where is the shade? What can I build around the pool? And so on and so forth.
